Creswell Against Fracking is a
non-political community group concerned about the impact of fracking on the area. We are non-profit making and welcome all members of the Creswell, Elmton and surrounding areas.
We, along with many other local groups, aim to protect our environment, health and livelihoods. We only support
non-violent, legal and peaceful protests.
Why we stand up for this issue
“You can be in favour of fixing the climate or you can be in favour of exploiting shale gas. You can’t be in favour of both at the same time.”John Ashton – former envoy for climate change at the UK Foreign Office.

The undesirable side effects of fracking – the health hazards, the pollution of water resources, pollution from leaking wells, pollution from hundreds of lorry journeys per day, atmospheric pollution from venting and flaring of wells, the dangers from extremely toxic (including carcinogenic) waste and the vast amounts of fresh water needed for each well are all well documented. These effects are NOT confined to other countries –they will possibly happen here also. These effects are also irreversible.
MAKE NO MISTAKE FRACKING IS HERE IN THE UK AND WILL AFFECT YOUR LIVES AND THE LIVES OF YOUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN THIS IS WHY WE ARE STANDING UP FOR THIS ISSUE…
Members of the steering committee are local residents who have decided to stand against shale gas planning applications and subsequent testing, drilling and excavation. There is a wealth of recent accredited evidence that fracking has numerous negative impacts on communities.
As custodians of the community, it must be ensured that the environment is left in a sustainable condition for future generations. It is vital that the true issues which confront communities are fully understood and addressed.
Since the inception of Creswell Against Fracking, the local community has continued to support the group in a range of events and activities. There are many other groups, local and regional, all with the same objective – NO FRACKING HERE! or anywhere).
Basic health care that is taken for granted due to the fantastic work being carried out by the NHS and all the wonderful staff may be compromised. Recently there have been reports from countries who are encountering major health issues around the shale gas extraction sites. More investigation is needed, and clarification sought from experts.

In compiling the information and comments on this website we have had to use reports and data from sources in the USA and Australia simply because the fracking process is virtually unknown in the UK. The real benefit of quoting this material is that it is based on practical knowledge and experience and the research has been carried out by reputable organisations e.g. government agencies, university studies and NOT by corporations which have a vested financial interest and little or no experience in the industry.
